The Year of Becoming More

WELCOME URBAN YOGI

‘It doesn’t happen all at once,’ said the Skin Horse. ‘You become. It takes a long time. That’s why it doesn’t happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.” – from the Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams

Every end of the year brings about gratitude for the year that has passed and a new hope that the following year will be much better than the last. In some way, especially for us city dwellers who live in the faster lane, we all have that hope that our lives will evolve towards something better. That we can become our better selves by becoming stronger and becoming more calm as we face the daily grind of this multi-tasking world. It’s this gravitation towards becoming more… more of who we really are.

This 2016, UrbanYogi.ph is ready to become more! We realised that we could do more and be more that we originally started out to be. We hope to provide you, our modern day Urban Yogis, with practices, ideas, concepts, stories, and ways to live better and become stronger, sharper, calmer. We know that to become more takes time, patience and compassion… and that it definitely does not happen overnight, as the Skin Horse says to the Velveteen Rabbit.

Let this be our Urban Yogi manifesto: that to “become yogi” is to become more. And ultimately, it is really about becoming a better human being. If you feel better physically, there’s a sense of lightness and clarity that comes with it…that you can smile more and just feel better generally.

So let your yoga practice wake up your senses! Allow your yoga to help you become alive so you may bask in your own natural light. Let the practice of asana maximize your potential physically, mentally and emotionally. And maybe, as you learn to love the light inside you so you can fully embrace the light within others. Besides, when you read or listen to news around the world and see all the mess and chaos of the world, we really could use a whole lot of kindness and positivity.

On this new Urban Yogi year, we invite all you yogis to take your yoga practice to a deeper level, to get to know more about your body, how your mind works and how you can care for yourself and others with more compassion and love. And we invite new yogis who have yet to discover the practice, to stay curious and to be open to how the practice can become an opportunity to discover more of who you are.

Make 2016 your Year of Becoming!
